WHY is windows so slow?

I’ve been searching the internet for weeks and months trying to find the ultimate “fix” to speed up windows so that I’ll never complain again…

Well, I haven’t exactly found a solution to the speed problem, just simple sayings like: Don’t install anything or only install the programs you really really need. Doesn’t help much, does it?

At least if found a way to speed up firefox, you can see it here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1299854/posts

One of the best tips is how to actually speed up Windows Explorer, or at least when it starts. It has annoyed me many many times, why does it take so long to open?????
It is quite easy:
- Open explorer
- Choose Tools -> Folder options
- Show
- Uncheck the first check box which says something like ”Automatically search for networkfolders and printers”

BEEP BEEP BEEP

I’ve been going nuts the last couple of days… as my laptop has started a campaign against me, after trying to fix it I’ve also managed to do something with the sound control.
Earlier I could adjust it easily with the ThinkVantage buttons on the laptop, but now there’s a BEEP whenever I receive an email, also when I try to adjust the sound control there’s a BEEP.
This wasn’t a problem earlier, as the BEEP was kind of not noticeable, but after my genious “fixings” on my computer the BEEP is probably set to about 8 times the max volume of the computer or something… my hearing is almost damaged, and I thought going to that Metallica concert would break my hearing…
Anyways I’ve found the solution.. I’m pasting it here, but it was found on this site:

Thanks for this

It is actually quite easy:

  • In the control panel, go into the System Device Manager.
  • From the View menu, select “Show Hidden Devices”
  • In the Non-Plug and Play devices, disable the “Beep” Device (Properties, “Driver” tab, Set the startup to disabled and stop it)

At last I can listen to music on my computer without beeing afraid of new emails!
